Fort Benning to get new Martin Army Hospital

July 1, 2008 - The festivities also came one day after President Bush approved millions of dollars for a new hospital at Fort Benning.

At Tuesday's ceremony Major General Walter Wodjakowski said construction on the new hospital will begin sometime over the next year.

MCLB Crosses Fingers for Vehicle Warehouse

Albany - - Albany's Marine Corp Logistics Base may soon get millions of dollars to build a warehouse to protect vital combat vehicles.

The House of Representatives approved a spending bill that includes almost 10 million dollars for the 40,000 square foot warehouse.

MCLB officers say it's needed to provide a climate-controlled facility for their wartime vehicles.

"Currently those vehicles are out in the open and they degrade because they're exposed to the weather and this facility would protect them from that," says Lt. Commander Marc Roueau.

FT. BENNING CLOSER TO GAINING APPROPRIATIONS FOR FACILITY UPGRADES

Washington, D.C. Congressman Sanford Bishop, a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, announced that the full House of Representatives last night approved the fiscal year (FY) 2008 Defense Appropriations bill, which allocates $459 billion to the Department of Defense for the funding of our troops, including first class weapons, equipment, training, facilities, and health care services. This includes giving a pay raise to all military personnel, rejecting the President’s request to increase TRICARE co-pays, and fully funding the upgrade and purchase of equipment crucial to the continued security of our nation. Additionally, several key provisions of the bill’s language address improving oversight of government contractors, including allocating increased funding to the agencies that audit defense projects.
