CAMP ARIFJAN, KUWAIT: Four US representatives and their spouses served up something special on Thanksgiving Day at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

Representatives John Murtha (Pennsylvania), David Hobson (Ohio), Norm Dicks (Washington), and Sanford Bishop (Georgia), met with Lt. General R. Steven Whitcomb, Third Army/United States Army Central commanding general, and dined with service members from their respective slates on November 22.

Each representative's spouse, who accompanied the congressmen, visited service members at the Wounded Warrior Recovery Center, the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Center, the Expeditionary Medical Facility - Kuwait, and the gym during their visit here.

Congressman Sanford Bishop Jr. and his wife, the Honorable Vivian Bishop, greatly honored the soldiers from the state of Georgia by their visit on Thanksgiving Day.

It was very nice to have them there when they could be with their family back home," said First Lt. Charlie Remaley, 12300 Transportation Company, Joint Logistical Task Force 1144th, Georgia National Guard.

We were all impressed with their genuine concern for our welfare and appreciate their sacrificial act of kindness on this very special family day," said Lt Col. Darryl Cummings, Chief, Logistics Plans, 1st Sustainment Command (Theater).

Most importantly, their visit encouraged our spirits and gave us an opportunity to share wonderful memories of our families and friends back home," Cummings added.

The representatives and their spouses will also visit service members deployed throughout the Third Army/US Army Central in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

Bishop, Chambliss have opposite reactions to Bush speech

September 13, 2007 - 6:30pm

WASHINGTON — A senator and U.S. representative from Southwest Georgia had differing takes Thursday night on President George Bush’s endorsement of reducing the number of U.S. troops in Iraq.

Speaking from the Oval Office in a prime-time address, Bush said he has ordered the gradual reduction of troops.

The president said he accepted recommendations from Army Gen. David Petraeus that would gradually alter the U.S. military’s mission in Iraq from a peacekeeping force to a limited, training-based platform for Iraqi security forces.

U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss’s office said Thursday that the Moultrie Republican will support the president so long as he fulfills his obligation to redeploy the troops once their mission is met.
